GATT, the Euro and State-Free Economics
GATT may have faded from our memories, upstaged by the World Trade Organisation. But the issues it dealt with – especially freely-regulated multi-lateral trade were and remain important still today. The focus is now mainly on the Euro and the attempts of the European Union to create a single currency area, albeit political rather than economic. In the background lies the unanswered question of our times: Can, should and if so, how, can the state and the economy be decoupled?
